MEMSentry (Yole Development) FINANCES: "Acquisition of APM by Unimicron"

Unimicron, a PCB manufacturer, subsidiary of the semiconductor foundry UMC, has announced the acquisition of Asia Pacific Microsystems, the largest MEMS foundry in Taiwan. Unimicron was already a majority shareholder in ChipSense, the second largest MEMS foundry in Taiwan.

After the folding of Neostones one year ago, the MEMS industry in Taiwan has now reached a very high level of concentration. TSMC is still doing development work on several MEMS projects and UMC with APM and ChipSense is now clearly the Taiwanese leader in MEMS foundry.
